Serious Play

This page is for a guest DT Call at Sketchy Thursdays. I wandered into the sight last night after I had to come home early from my crop, and I saw the sketch on the sidebar, clicked on it, and I kinda got inspired to make a layout for them. Then I read that the call ended tonight at midnight eastern time, which meant 9 I think my time...So, even though I knew I'd pay for it, I decided to make this page. I started it at midnight! I finished at 2am! So, needless to say, I'm exhausted today, but I'm quite happy with this page! Here's my take on this sketch:

Here's what I used on this page: PP:cosmo cricket(joy ride), crate paper (static collection),We R Memory Keepers (Teen Angst collection), grey cardstock is of the unknown variety, black cardstock is core-dinations (love it!) I embossed the core-dinations with a tim holtz distress folder, I also embossed the title with the grey cardstock and painted the raised parts with MM blue paint. The title was cut with Quickutz Diesel font, I also used the Quickutz @ shape. I used my trusty tim holtz sander on the edges of the pics (it's kind of a kick I'm on it seems) and distressed the edges of my paper with my close to my heart distresser. I sprayed tattered angels glimmer mist in black magick and some kind of blue...electric blue maybe? The letter stickers are from a basic grey halloween kit.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it! I'll be sleeping early tonight!
Ciao!

Photo Shoot!

Well, I think I've resigned myself to the fact that, until my kids are older, going to crops isn't going to happen for a while...I think I'm just going to have to have people over at my house from now on. To elaborate: Our LSS had a designer's crop tonight and I had everything settled to go; older kids going to mom's house, baby coming with me to be put to sleep there. In theory it should've worked, however, Kieran (my youngest) decided that he didn't want to go to sleep until like 9:30 (he usually sleeps around 7, or 8 at the latest. Then I finally get my stuff out to work on my layout, and my mom calls me and my oldest is crying his head off and won't go to bed because he's over tired and wants his mom! Sooooo...I pack up my stuff...put it in the van...pack up the baby and go pick up the kids from my moms! Don't get me wrong, I still had a great time just hanging out with the girls, but it did feel like a bit of a waste of packing stuff anyway...since I literally cut a strip off a piece of paper, embossed it and sanded it...then went home. LOL I guess that's to be expected when you have little ones ;)
Oh well...Aaaanyway, I did manage to get some time to create last night. These pics where taken when I was just pregnant with Caleb. We were at our family cabin and I asked my mom to take some pics of Ethan and I. I love these pics so much because it's so rare that there are any pics of me and my boys... I have tons of Chris with the boys, because I'm usually the one taking the pictures...I usually have to ask someone to take pics of me with the kids, or family pics. Well, I think I'm rambling now...It's becoming quite late, so I'll just shut up and show you my layout! lol

Here's what I used: The cardstock is bazzil basics and so is the embroidery floss, pp is crate paper, brook collection, and october afternoon, thrift shop collection. I used a close to my heart edge distresser, distress inks (vintage photo color used on outter die cut label and peeled paint color used on the green cardstock, tim holtz sander (used to distress the edges of my pics), quickutz label die cut, and alphabet stickers are Lush, by MME.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog ;)

Creative Scrappers and Scrapfit Challenges

I've been really into sketches lately. I think I've already said that a few times, but it's true! I'm loving the creativity that flows with a sketch! Seeing one, and making it my own is a lot of fun! Creative Scrappers has some awesome sketches, and they come out with a new one once a week! I think I might be a few weeks behind, but this LO is my take on Sketch 116. I'm also entering it into Workout #26 at the Scrapfit Blog Their sponsor is the Little Black Dress Club Kit. Their challenge is to add some bling to your LO, Card, or Altered Item and since it's sponsored by Little Black Dress Club Kits, they want you to add something black to it! I barely got this challenge into the same sketch, but then I remembered that I added the black glimmer mist to my page! and my bligny flourishy thingy ;) I had fun with this page, but it was definately one of those projects that I needed to just walk away from! I kept looking at it and looking at it and adding something else and I finally had to make myself leave my desk! Anyway, I hope you like it!
Here's the deets: pp:My Mind's Eye So Sophie (again, I know!), October Afternoon Fly a Kite collection; Cardstock: Bazzil Basics, Bling: dollarama, Die Cuts: Quickutz special delivery gift set, and Spellbinders; Letter Stickers American Crafts, Ribbon, My Mind's Eye Bohemia collection, Stamps: Tim Holtz Stamper's Annonymous and Distress Inks, Tattered Angel's Glimmer Mist in Electric Blue and Black Magic, unknown fuzzy brad, American Crafts pop dots, and Zig Pen.
Thanks for taking a look!

yet another card...

This card was hard for me to make, as it was a sympathy card for a friend of mine who's mom (another friend of mine) passed away. It's never fun to have to make those kind of cards. Wendy was an amazing woman and, even though I wasn't super close to her, she definately left a lasting impression on me, and I will miss her dearly!

I made this card with the quickutz butterfly. I used some stickles on the wings to bling 'em up a bit. pp used: MME So Sophie (I seem to be using that line all the time these days) I can't remember what brand the base pp is...I found it in my scrap stash. The ribbon is another in the webster's pages designer trim pack. I also used the QK scallop border die, dollorama bling and those cute flowers are from close to my heart, stamped with nothing other than distress inks! I didn't have any sympathy sentiments, so I found this quote online and cut it out with the chopsticks font by QK's. I think it took me like 2 hours just to do the inside! I also used the Tim Holtz flower die on the inside that I glued a little Bella Bling onto. Well, that's all the deets I can think of...hope you like it!
ps: I just came back from 100 mile this evening and we had to stop at a car accident on north lakeside (just outside of town). Someone I think had fallen asleep at the wheel and flew from the highway over the bottom sidestreet and into the ditch! Then her vehicle caught on fire! She was okay mostly (thank God) but it was pretty scary because it's sooooo dry around here and her vehicle was like exploding and the trees where on fire around it and everything! It was quite intense! I just thought I'd share that because it was crazy!!

anyway, I hope you're all enjoying your summer!! I'm going back out to our cabin tomorrow for the day!! Have a good night!!
Ciao!

page maps challenge and baby update

Hello all! I just wanted to share a quick pic of my ever growing little baby Kieran. He's 3 months old now, and I'm not sure but I think he weighs about 15 pounds! At his 2 month check up he was 14, so he's gotta be getting close to 15 or so! He is such a chunky monkey! He's smiling away and cooing, and it will be no time at all I think before he's rolling around too! He's a great baby. He's so easy going. All my boys have been, which is why I think that I wouldn't mind another one most of the time! There's definately times though when I know I'm done (my husband is for sure, so I think there will be no more babies) but most times I could totally have another one! Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update on the wee one (who's not so wee anymore!) we call him the "stay puked marshmallow man" because he pukes all the time, and he's extremely pale and chunky! lol He throws up so much that if he wasn't so big, I'd probably be worried, but I know he's getting what he needs even with all the upchuck! On that note...lol onto the scrap page!

I made this page based on a sketch from thePagemaps blog. She's doing another challenge and the winner is going to get this great prize pack from scrap attack! I've been really liking sketches lately...I've never been too big on sketches, but lately I've been into using them a lot.

This page came together really quickly once I decided on the pics for it. They're of a really close friend of mine with my first son Ethan. We've known each other since we were a year old. We're not as close as we used to be, but it's great to have friendships like that that will last forever. I really like these pics of the two of them.

Here's a couple close ups of random parts of the page...I used pop dots on the names to make them stand out. Also, I kind of discovered this accidentally, but I wrote a stitch pattern on the letters with a white gel pen, then I didn't really like it, so I colored over them with my copics, and I liked the way it toned it down, but gave the letters some interest too! The names are cut out with the Quickutz Yogurt font (love that font!)

I used the Oliver patterned paper from Basic Grey and a little bit of the MME So Sophie collection too. I think that collection is my new favourite! I can't get enough of it! I used the Quickutz scalloped journaling thingy too. The star ribbon I used was actually part of a gift I got from my cousin for Kieran. When I saw it, I knew that it would be really cool for something...so I had to keep it! The green ribbon is Basic Grey. I also used the scallopy ek success punch. I was pretty excited to finally use my sewing machine on a layout! I've been wanting to for a looong time, but had never gotten around to actually learning how to THREAD it! lmao! So, I finally figured it out, and I must tell you that sewing paper is a lot harder than it looks! It's definately going to take some getting used to, but I love the look of it!

anyway, I think I've babbled on enough tonight! Go check out the pagemaps blog, it's definately a great source of inspiration!!

Can you feel the love?

Do you ever have one of those projects that you seem to spend a million hours on, and you STILL don't love the outcome?! Well, this LO was one of those for me! It sat in my basement half done for like 3 days, then I finally forced myself to finish it last night...I still worked for 3 more hours on it last night too! I finally resigned myself to the fact that it wasn't going to get any better than it already was...so I just glued er down!

here's the deets: I used the new Basic Grey Oliver collection for the pp, american crafts and bazzil basics cardstock, BoBunny buttons, Distress Inks, close to my heart brads, Tim Holtz (stamper's annonymous) stamp, and I used my silhouette to cut out the scallop border, journaling block, and the alphabet. I can't remember what the main paper I used is, but I remember buying it because it had these cute little animals all over the other side...lol I do that quite often, buy it for the cute things on one side, then end up using the plain, but distressed looking back side! the journaling reads: "When Caleb was born, Ethan definately went through a jealous phase. He acted out actually by beating up his best friend Ethan Prest. It didn't last very long though, and before long, Ethan wanted to hug him, and kiss him, and Love him."
They are going to be very close I can tell...but they still manage to drive each other crazy at the best of times too!! Good old Brotherly Love!
Enjoy!

Chris...or is it Caleb?!

I've been waiting a long time to scrap this pic of my husband. It's my absolute favourite pic of him when he was a kid. I just love how he's looking off into the distance, and he looks like he's having a great time swinging! I was given the Mr. Campy collection by Cosmo Cricket from my favourite LSS Creative Accents to make something with, and when I saw the papers I knew they were made for this pic! Now I know why I didn't get that pic scrapped before...because I didn't have the Mr. Campy papers! I cut the tree trunk out with my silhouette, then I used an old creative memories circle punch for the leaves. The acorns are a quickutz shape, which I used the mr campy papers and the quickutz cork paper, I also used the cork to cut out the title, which I cut with the Fiesta font by quickutz. I used my Score Pal to make the plaid imprint on the craft cardstock, then I added the two colors on the embossed lines with Distress Inks. I covered the chipboard leaves with mr. campy too! I hid the journaling behind the raised picture and used another quickutz shape (the tab) on the edge of the journaling block so it can be pulled out. I hope you enjoy it, and hopefully I've inspired you in some way! I know I get so much inspiration by blog hopping, so I hope I can share some with you too!

BTW, don't you think Chris (my hubby) looks just a little bit like our middle son Caleb? lol

dare I say? I made another card!!

FOR BLOG CANDY SCROLL DOWN!!!!

Well, I don't know, but you card makers just MIGHT have got me hooked! I made this one for my Mother in Law's birthday today, and it only took me an hour! I couldn't believe how fast I got it done! I don't think I've ever made anything so fast! I think it's my favourite card that I've made so far! I almost didn't want to give it away! lol I bought the sentiment that I used on the inside of the card last year, and I've been dying to use it because I think they're adorable! (they're a set of sentiments from kids) Hope you enjoy it!

Hope you enjoyed it! thanks so much for stopping by!!

Here's the deets of the card: Stamps: Bella, front sentiment stamp: close to my heart, inside sentiment stamp: inkadinkadoo, papers (pp) So Sophie MME, cardstock; bazzil basics and neena (ivory), colored with copics, ink; memento black, and walnut stain distress inks, bling: dollorama.
